Small Expressions 13 - Juried Show
December is almost over and I'm just posting this - ugh! Two of my pieces have been accepted into the Small Expressions 13 juried show at the Northwinds Art Center here in Port Townsend WA.
It has been a fantastic show with a great turnout. Gallery Walk opening night was INSANE! The building was completely packed. It was awesome!
What an honor to have been a part of this.
Why I do what I do
I hold myself to a high standard, that in order for my shutter to click, it’s to capture something special. Either an event personal to me or my clients. Never will my shutter click to capture something that’s “cool” or “pretty.” I want to capture something real. A moment that I’ve actually witnessed.
I’ve recently sold a piece titled “Root, Third, And Fifth.” It was why she purchased it that brought tears to my eyes. She called from Arizona hoping that the painting was still available, she purchased it and I shipped it off to it’s new home. When she opened the package, she sent me a message:
“It’s more beautiful than I remember. When I returned from Port Townsend my mother’s health took a turn for the worse. I took time off work to care for her, but she sadly passed away. I bought your piece for the serenity and peace that it brings me. Thank you for sharing your talent of seeing and capturing the beauty that surrounds us.”
I read this in the middle of the isle at the grocery store. I hurried out to my car so I could cry.
