Sometimes you just need to run away.
I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and since I've only been here for 2 years, there's much to explore. Last Wednesday was a day to discover and it was amazing.
In the midst of making banana bread (cuz I'm crafty like that), Jared came up to me, "We should do something. We should just go."
I was a bit taken aback. Usually I'm the one begging and dragging my family out the door to get their hands dirty, smell fresh air, and just get out. "Uh, ok. Where?"
"I don't know. We'll figure that out."
I'm thinking OMG sweet! Finally! I cover the bread batter, turn off the oven, grab the camera bag, get Maes in his car seat, load up the dog, and we just go.
First, of course, we need gas station hot dogs. I mean, it's not a trip unless you eat shitty food. Then, we hit an intersection. "Well," I say, "We can go right. That goes to Sequim and Port Angeles. Or we can go left."
"Go left."
"Well, we can just keep going until we reach Lake Cushman."
"Yeah," he says, "let's do that."
Yay!
I had an amazing engagement session at Lake Cushman last fall, and have always wanted to take my family there.
We drove, talked, laughed, and made fun of the funny names of towns we passed by (we thought "Hamma Hamma ham sandwich" was effing hilarious). The drive alone was worth it.
We reach the lake, the sun pokes out, and we explored the area finding waterfalls, sticks, rocks, geese, blue water, solitude, and adventure.
It was the perfect escape.
